When it comes to dirt track racing, small suspension changes can make a huge difference on the track. One of the most overlooked areas of setup consistency is accurately measuring coilover spring rates and loads. If your spring numbers are off, your setup notes, scaling, and suspension tuning can quickly become unreliable.

Step-by-Step How to Measure Coil Over Spring Rates Accurately

Remove and inspect your Spring

  • Look for bent coils, cracks, uneven wear, heat damage, sagging free height

Mount the spring in the EZ Smasher

    • Position the spring securely using the EZ Smasher’s machined 1/2″ or 3/4″ shoulder pins depending on your step up.
    • Never retract under 12″ or extend more than 26″

    Apply load gradually

    • Using the cordless impact-powered system, slowly compress the spring while monitoring the digital LCD load display and linear encoder.
      • Our EZ Smasher is equipped with a load call with LCD digital readout display for accurate load measurement and a linear encoder with LCD digital readout for exact length measurement

      Record your measurements

      • Keep notes of: spring rate, compression distance, total load, spring ID number, number of races on the spring
